As street food reinvents the way we eat—boosted by globalization and media exposure—the boundless creativity of those behind it delivers an incredibly diverse offering, especially in the French capital. While it’s impossible to list every must-visit spot, here are five concepts you need to try right now. Put your cutlery away, wash your hands, and dig in.

LE CHEF RAVIOLI

From the family of “places you walk past without really noticing.” No flashy sign. No décor by the latest trendy designer—just a solid friend who tipped you off. A name that says it all: Chef Ravioli. Simple. Efficient. Definitely less pretentious than restaurants called “Assiette” or “Désir.” Behind the window? Hands kneading, rolling, shaping ravioli live. That alone puts a big smile on your face before you’ve even smelled the dough. The welcome is warm, the prices are grounded—no nasty surprises. Everything feels reassuring, which isn’t that common. If you’re into Chinese ravioli or plump baos, lace up your sneakers and head to Rue Saint-Denis—this is the spot. Order big? Of course. Mix flavors? Absolutely. Variety? You already know the answer. Your taste buds will thank you. And yes, even if the term is English, the doggy bag isn’t just an Anglo-Saxon thing—so no regrets if your eyes were bigger than your stomach.

📍 253 rue Saint Denis, 75002 Paris

✔️ Monday to Saturday: 12pm – 3pm & 7pm – 10pm

💶 Around €20, depending on your appetite (and the size of your doggy bag)

BASIS

Let’s be honest—no street food talk without kebab. But this isn’t just any kebab. Basis is tucked away on Rue de Belleville, a street buzzing with life at every corner. Here, it’s a ritual—almost sacred—in four steps. First, the bread: homemade round bread, crispy yet soft like a pillow you never want to leave. Then the recipe: five options, but spoiler alert—the star is the Good Morning Istanbul, with a slightly spicy homemade sauce that wakes everything up like the first ray of sunlight. Next comes the meat—the moment of truth. “When in Rome…” go for the lamb. Perfectly grilled: crispy on the outside, bold and juicy inside. There’s also a vegan option—rare enough to deserve a badge of honor. Finally, the fries. Long, generous, comforting—like a summer night. If you’re into skinny fries or chip crumbs, this isn’t your place. A spot that earns a big greasy thumbs-up post-meal. Approved.

📍 79 Rue de Belleville, 75019 Paris

✔️ Mon–Wed: 11:30am – 3pm & 6:30pm – 12am // Thu–Sun: 11:30am – 3pm

💶 Around €15, depending on your fries situation

LULU

There are crêpes… and then there’s Lulu’s crêpe. This one stands out. Bold, generous, overflowing—staring you down like: “So… are you hungry or not?” We’re talking XXL galette here. Light appetites, step aside. Ingredients pile up like skiers in a cable car—tight but thrilled to be there. Farm-quality ham, crunchy greens, everything homemade. And the butter… oh, the butter. You see it, taste it, live it—and it loves you back. It’s Brittany calling, loud and proud. Just one thing: you’ll eat standing, and the butter might try to escape—so stay sharp if you want to save your sneakers and baggy pants. But hey, it’s a crêpe. And that’s exactly how we love it—aiming way beyond the usual.

📍 Marché des Enfants Rouges, 39 Rue de Bretagne, 75003 Paris

✔️ Tuesday to Sunday: 11:30am – 6pm

💶 €10–15 for savory galettes, around €5 for sweet crêpes

LE PARIZOT

We often forget: France has had its own street food icon for centuries—the one and only jambon-beurre. At Le Parizot, no distractions. No detours. Just straight to the point: jambon-beurre, and nothing else. Which means it’s executed with precision and passion. The ham comes from Doumbéa, a master in the field, available in three versions: classic, smoked, herbed. The butter? Normandy, churned, salted—of course. Add a bit of pepper… and then the twist: a wild garlic tome that gently hugs the ham. And then—boom—the unexpected star: a gherkin and red pepper confit from Bornibus. Honestly, it changes everything. It turns a sandwich you thought you knew into a full-on celebration. Best jambon-beurre in Paris? Hard to say—too many contenders. But this one is definitely top tier.

📍 9 rue de Crussol, 75011 Paris

✔️ Tuesday to Saturday: 9:30am – 6pm

💶 €5–10 depending on size, up to €14 as a combo

PATATE

Fries—timeless, irresistible, whether you’re 7 or 107 (healthy lifestyle permitting). We’d almost forgotten about proper fry shops, stuck with that outdated image of roadside stands and lukewarm mayo. Big mistake. Because a new team has shaken things up with Patate. No fuss—just fries. But real fries: golden like a Flemish sunset, double-cooked to perfection in… vegetable oil. Yes, vegan-friendly—and ultra crispy. Enjoy them plain if you’re a purist, or dip into one of the many homemade sauces—from classics to bold flavor bombs. Served in cones in three sizes, from a cute 11am snack to a full-on hunger fix. Open all day, which makes that Wednesday 3pm fry craving totally acceptable. After all, in “guilty pleasure,” the key word is pleasure.

📍 36 Rue Saint-André des Arts, 75006 Paris

✔️ Daily: 11:30am – 10pm

💶 €4 to €7.50 depending on how hungry you are
